Eyes that Kiss in the Corners – Picture Book Review

Eyes that Kiss in the Corners is my first read of 2021! It’s written by Joanna Ho and Illustrated by Dung Ho, published by HarperCollins on Jan 5, 2021.

I love this book in every possible way. Such a sweet book that will be a wonderful mirror or window for readers, everywhere.

“My eyes that kiss in the corners and glow like warm tea are a revolution. they are mama and amah and mei-mei. they are me. and they are beautiful.” I paused to take in the writing. The poetic writing brings tears to my eyes.

This is a wonderful picture book about a girl who has almond-shaped eyes like the other women in her family. Beautiful illustrations and a very nice affirmation of beautiful eyes, different than most of her friends. The story covers the history and familial love we experience through our eyes. It’s a great book that represents Asian children and proves to them that their eyes are just as beautiful as everyone else’s. We would love to see more books that affirm young readers in this way.

This book is a must-buy for any and all. Instant classic.

Purchase the book on Amazon, B&N, and IndieBound.
